The company specializing in heavy machinery, Doosan Bobcat, has brought its new electric trascabo called T7X, the first of its kind in the world, to the CES in Las Vegas.
The brand ensures that this little warrior will be the new tireless companion of those arduous work days, because with a 62 kW lithium-ion battery, it is capable of operating a full day. The supplier of this battery is the specialist Green Machine, who ensures that with it the energy flow is guaranteed to be constant, so it is no longer necessary to wait for the hydraulic components to “charge” before continuing to work.
Doosan Bobcat also assures that the greatest benefits of the T7X are found right when carrying out heavy work, because in addition to being efficient, it will also save operation and maintenance costs:
By not using a diesel engine, it is much quieter.
- It does not generate as much vibration as a conventional trascarbo.
- Reduces polluting diesel emissions.
- Saves fuel, oil and hydraulic system consumable costs.
- You only need a quarter of coolant (a diesel transfer needs 259 litres).
The T7X has an energy management system that allows it to work continuously for 4 hours, while in “intermittent mode” it can work a full day. Said management system detects the load level and energy demand in order to optimize its duration.
This electric trascabo will be offered with a package of accessories, also electric: drill, broom and two types of pliers for holding objects and materials.
Doosan Bobcat already has a commercial agreement with the Sunbelt Rentals company through which a large fleet of these vehicles will be made available to customers this year.

Seven safety tips when operating heavy machinery

(MAKRO Group Press) – For a large number of industries the use of heavy equipment is essential for its proper functioning as they make complex tasks are performed in a simple way.
But this does not cease to have a high risk at the time of its operation, which is why, to make use of these large machines must know the appropriate safety measures for both the operator and the rest of the staff that is in the work area.
In Grupo MAKRO we want to share with you seven basic safety measures that either as a company or as an operator you should know, in addition to this, you should carefully read the Operator’s Manual before performing any work on the machinery.
1.- Check blind spots
Generally the vision from these large machines is quite limited, for this reason, it is really essential that the operators of heavy equipment are 100% sure that there is no other person in a blind spot.
There should always be a member of the work crew to check the area and indicate when the way is clear to back up. This designated person should prevent pedestrians or other crew members from crossing the road while the equipment is backing out of its parking area.
If there are no personnel to perform this task, the operator must check all blind spots before starting up the equipment. This is where the reflective vests come into play, a fundamental piece of equipment that every heavy equipment operator must use on the job site to avoid any type of accident.
2.- Importance of support points
Extreme care must be taken when getting on and off the machinery.
That is why there is a rule of three points of contact to avoid falls and trips when entering or leaving the cabin.
Never get on or off the equipment by jumping, the three-point contact rule indicates that you need both hands to firmly hold on to the handles of the vehicle or the ladder to access the cab. Remember to always face the machine.
Ladders should always be kept clean, free of grease and oil. If any of these points is damaged, it is necessary to replace it.
3.- The use of seat belts is not optional.
When it comes to safety in heavy machinery, the use of seat belts is essential, there should be no excuses, so we avoid possible injuries.
The seat belt can save your life in the event of the equipment overturning, and it also keeps you firmly attached to the seat when driving on uneven terrain, thus maintaining a preventive measure against the constant abrupt jumps of the machinery.
It is essential to always check the belt fabric, if it has tears or some of its parts do not work properly, it should be changed, but regardless of its appearance, it is advisable to change the complete set every 3 years.
4.- Loading and unloading the equipment
You should always be on level ground when loading or unloading the equipment. In this way, you greatly reduce the risk of possible rollovers and other costly accidents with the vehicle.
On the other hand, loading and unloading material can be dangerous for other people on the job site. Therefore, as with the first point, you need to have a member of staff to help ensure that the area is clear.
Also, when it is necessary to lift objects with the machine, check that the loads are secured with the appropriate attachments and rigging and verify that the load is within the lifting capacity range of the equipment in the Operator’s Manual. Check on a daily basis that these are in good condition.
5.- Load limit
It is not uncommon for a heavy equipment driver to drive different types of vehicles in the course of the same day. Therefore, it is necessary that you check the different load limits that each piece of equipment has, as these can change drastically.
Your vehicle may be able to withstand a slight excess in volume, but that could have negative consequences on its regular performance. These effects will be more noticeable in the long term, with an inevitable reduction in the useful life of the equipment.
6.- Regular inspections
As a non-negotiable rule of thumb, equipment should be inspected before use. This involves walking around the vehicle with a list of the most important components for efficient and safe operation.
The exact list of parts to check will vary by model. However, some of the components you need to check daily are: hydraulic pipes and hoses, the chassis, oil and coolant levels, and the condition of the tires or chains. Currently there are several applications for mobile devices that can help you with this task.
7.- Constant communication
Work sites where heavy machinery is used are usually full of people performing multiple tasks. That is why it is advisable to have a two-way radio or some other type of communicator that allows you to keep abreast of what is happening in the area.
Communication between operators and the rest of the team should be a recurring theme in every safety meeting. It is necessary to reinforce this aspect and establish driving patterns at the work site and signaling communication for when the situation requires it.
Whether it is construction, agricultural, mining or road works equipment, working with heavy machinery can be risky if the necessary measures are not taken. Follow these safety measures, check your vehicles and their surroundings in order to keep your tasks accident-free.

JCB launches hydrogen excavator by adapting conventional diesel engine

(MAKRO Group Press) – The British company, one of the most recognized in industrial machinery, believes that a hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine could be a cheaper and faster way to meet emissions targets.
Most of you reading this are probably familiar with the JCB brand, as it is common to see its heavy machinery at work in the city – be it on construction sites, gardening, etc. The British company is working to reduce its emissions. The British company is working to reduce its CO2 emissions and in that sense points to its latest presentation, a hydrogen backhoe loader that uses a modified diesel engine as a base.
JCB’s new hydrogen backhoe loader does not use a fuel cell system, but an adaptation of the Dieselmax 448 engine that JCB uses in other machines. The firm has made substantial modifications to the diesel engine to allow it to run solely on hydrogen, so it does not emit carbon dioxide (CO2).
The new engine has a completely new intake system, with new pistons, lower compression and a common-rail direct injection system with new injection ports. The aim has been to match the performance and operating characteristics of existing diesel engines, reducing both CO2 and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Even without any filters, the hydrogen engine emits less polluting gases than a modern diesel with subsequent filters and catalytic converters (which, in JCB’s case, reduce NOx emissions by 98%).
Despite the modifications, it is significantly more economical than a fuel cell or battery electric excavator. For that reason, JCB believes this technology can help the transport and heavy equipment industry reach the UK government’s zero emissions target more quickly than technologies such as current batteries.
Early trials of this engine on real backhoe loaders have been successful enough for the company’s engineers to be confident that this technology can be applied to a wider range of its vehicles. In fact, JCB plans to further develop this hydrogen engine and says it already has its sights set on production. According to JCB’s head of innovation, Tim Burnhope, the big advantages of the hydrogen engine are that “it can be brought into production quickly and affordably, while the know-how and infrastructure of internal combustion engines will remain relevant.”
This is not the first hydrogen-powered machine JCB has introduced. Last year it introduced the hydrogen-powered JCB 220X, a 20-ton excavator that, in that case, did use a fuel cell. JCB’s chairman, Lord Anthony Bamford, decided in July last year to set up a specialist hydrogen engine research team at the company’s R&D center out of growing concern about the impending loss of internal combustion engine expertise and infrastructure and the dissolution of an entire well-positioned supply chain.
Lord Bamford’s son, Jo Bamford, founded Ryse Hydrogen after working in the family business. He acquired the Wrightbus bus company and has won contracts to supply the first hydrogen double-decker bus to cities such as London and Aberdeen. Father and son are resolute in their commitment to hydrogen: “We are no longer advocating diesel; that horse has bolted. The goal must be zero carbon emissions, but we don’t believe batteries and fuel cells are the only solutions.”

(MAKRO Group Press) – Excavators and/or backhoe loaders are used on every construction site. Choosing one or the other will depend on the terrain, the volume of earth to be moved and the type of work to be done. They are also useful in many other jobs.
While it is true that both equipment have some similarities and are composed of almost the same basic elements, there are differences between them that will help you decide when to use one or the other, let’s know those key aspects:
Displacement:
As for excavators, it is more common to find them on tracks and depending on the type of work or use, on tires. Backhoe loaders, you will always find them on tires. The distance you need to travel and the terrain where you will be working are key to deciding on one or the other.
Turning capacity:
Most excavators can rotate through 360°, which makes them the equipment with the greatest turning capacity. On the other hand, backhoes generally to rotate 360° require more space to mobilize, which increases their operating cycle.
Digging angle:
Both backhoes and excavators have an arm that ends in a bucket, which can be used to dig or move earth. The difference here is the reach and size of the bucket in relation to the surface position. While backhoe shovels are better handled in excavations located below the machine, due to the reach of its arm and the use of stabilizers, excavators are more effective on surfaces located at the same level, or that require greater radial reach having, in addition, greater load capacity.
Most common jobs for an excavator:
Due to the possibility of attaching attachments and accessories, excavators are more commonly used in jobs such as concrete drilling, canal and river cleaning. They are also used for demolition of buildings, gravel cementing, rock crushing, forestry clearing, repair, construction and preparation of earth slopes.
Work performed with a backhoe loader:
Backhoes, meanwhile, are used to make ramps, open trenches to install pipes or cables, move earth, perform land clearing and prepare land for laying building foundations. Especially in urban areas.

(Press MAKRO Group) – MAKRO Group and QUICE S.A. Road Driving School have established a strategic alliance agreement in order to help our graduates in the processing of the Type I professional license, a prerequisite for the handling of heavy equipment in Panama.
Specifically, as indicated by Walber Castillo, CEO President of Grupo MAKRO, the two schools will establish a system for the exchange of information and thus encourage future professionals in the handling of Heavy Equipment to be up to date with all that is established in the current legal regulations of the Transit and Land Transportation Authority.
The agreement establishes that MAKRO Group will deliver the list of students who have completed and passed the course of Heavy Machinery Operator and have their certificate, to QUICE S.A. Road School, who will be responsible for carrying out the necessary procedures to be granted the respective professional licenses as long as the applicants pass the theoretical and practical tests in SERTRACEN.
Likewise, the Escuela Vial QUICE S.A. will provide the applicants with the fees for the necessary procedures in order to carry out the process properly and successfully.
It should be noted that the Escuela Vial QUICE S.A. is endorsed by the Autoridad de Transito y Transporte Terrestre as an authorized entity for driving courses and processing of professional and private licenses.
Finally, through this agreement, the two companies will contribute to the graduates of the school of heavy machinery operation to be integral professionals who have all their credentials and can make their way in such a lucrative world.
